Goloka Sanctuary began when three people from different walks of life, a business professor from Iran, an AI designer from India, and a wellness entrepreneur from the USA, came together to care for land and animals.
They chose Maybee, Michigan, with hope and humility, knowing the journey would take dedication. Today, that early intention is carried forward by a growing circle of volunteers who help turn simple daily care into a shared, living sanctuary.
This land was chosen for a clear reason. Three cows were already here, and they could be protected from day one. Rather than letting other land projects take priority, the first commitment was to animal care.
From those first three, the sanctuary grew naturally as more animals arrived, and the care of cows became the heart of the work. Each day is built around consistency, safety, and gentle attention, so every animal can settle into a life of dignity.
Goloka Sanctuary is connected to a wider yoga community in the Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor area called the Harmony Collective, which also includes Kindred Journey School, a homeschool cooperative for local families.
Rooted in yoga values of connection, stewardship, and harmony with nature, the sanctuary offers a real place to slow down and learn. Visitors of all ages are welcomed to witness what care looks like in practice, and to contribute through presence, service, and community.

As the evening settled in, visitors gathered on the grass to share time in quiet company, surrounded by open land and soft light. Music, conversation, and moments of silence unfolded naturally, creating a gentle rhythm to the visit. Without a fixed agenda, the space allowed people to slow down, feel grounded, and connect through shared presence. Experiences like this highlight how the sanctuary offers not just refuge for animals, but a setting where human wellbeing is supported through calm, community, and care.

Early spring at the farm felt like a quiet promise coming to life. Surrounded by gentle cows and soft earth waking from winter, our group gathered in a circle, hand in hand. We shared reflections from the tough season behind us and opened our hearts to the possibilities ahead. There was something deeply grounding about standing together—listening, being heard, and feeling supported by one another and the animals around us. As spring began to unfold, so did a renewed sense of hope, connection, and gratitude for new beginnings.

On this day, Hannah Smith and her Friends came together to mark the season with simple offerings from the land. Flowers were gathered, shared, and held with care, reflecting appreciation for the cycles of growth that surround the sanctuary. The gathering was informal and warm, shaped by smiles, conversation, and the quiet joy of being together outdoors. Moments like these celebrate connection, not through ceremony, but through presence, gratitude, and shared experience.
